When it comes to giving gifts, I am a big believer in giving (and receiving) an experience over a gift. One of my most favourite and memorable gifts was a ticket for ice skating at Somerset House in London.
Sometimes, despite good intentions, gifts just don’t hit the mark and instead of receiving something meaningful, we end up with a whole lot of unnecessary and often unwelcome clutter. How many gifts have you received that you’ve never used? Or have given away to a charity? Maybe you have even moved it on by re-gifting it to someone else!
When choosing an experience, think of something that the person enjoys. Do they enjoy cooking? Perhaps a cooking class. Are they a movie buff? Maybe a double pass to the movies. How about an annual pass to the zoo, so the whole family can enjoy the gift again and again. Or perhaps they just need to chill out and unwind… a massage, a healing or even getting them a babysitter so they can have a night off!
The wonderful thing is is doesn’t even need to be expensive, a cup of coffee or an ice cream could bring just as much joy. Take your friend/special person out on a picnic or a hike if they are into that. If anyone who has read The Five Love Languages should know, some people prefer quality time to gifts. It can be a lot of fun. Something many of us have missed this year.
By gifting something that would interest the receiver shows you have given some consideration to their likes or needs. It certainly beats another pair of socks (unless you really need them!!)
Rebel Heart Journeys are now offering e-gift cards. Give the gift of a healing session or even a Chakradance class!
